Hexakai

More than 10,000 boards have been completed by players

I'm happy to announce that Hexakai's crossed the major milestone of 10,000 boards completed! As of late May, 2025, nearly 11,100 boards have been completed in total, exceeding my own expectations. The pie chart below shows the types of boards that are completed the most from data gathered about two months after launching the project.

Hexakai Boards Completed Pie Chart

Boards of size seven on easy mode are completed most often by a large margin, which makes perfect sense since it's the default size and difficulty for new players. From what I can tell, most players typically branch out by trying medium and difficult ratings on size 7, then proceed to the slightly larger boards of size 8 and 10. Even in those sizes, ultra-difficult boards are not completed very often. I believe many of the variances, such as boards of size 8 and 9 that appear in the pie, are partially explained by daily puzzles - players typically tackle daily puzzles of size 10 or smaller at a much higher frequency than those larger than 10.

As of now, I am still the only person to successfully complete "the behemoth" - a board of size 16 on ultra-difficult mode. I wrote about this experience in a previous blog post. Playing this type of board gives an intense by rewarding experience, and I encourage those of you reading this to give it a try, and if you do tackle it, share the board with me! Interestingly, someone has completed a board of size 15 in ultra-difficult mode, something I myself have not done. I expect that challenge is just about as difficult as "the behemoth" is, perhaps enough to warrant its own title.

To those of you who've played and supported Hexakai along it's journey, thank you for your continued support and interest in the game! I'm looking forward to hitting 50,000 boards completed!
